(JAMB) Approves Free Registration for Individuals with Disabilities in the 2024 UTM,January 15, 2024

The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has announced that individuals living with disabilities who intend to take the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will be able to register at no cost.

During the launch of the registration process for interested candidates nationwide, JAMB Registrar Ishaq Oloyede made this disclosure. He further stated that JAMB will provide free application documents to all categories of persons living with disabilities as a form of support.

"To offer support to individuals living with disabilities, JAMB will distribute free application documents to all categories of persons living with disabilities in the advertisement for the 2024 UTME/DE," he explained.

Oloyede also mentioned that measures have been implemented to ensure a seamless experience for all candidates. As part of these measures, audio books will now be made available to blind candidates. This digital adaptation of traditional reading materials will be provided in popular audio formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA. These formats will be compatible with various devices capable of streaming audio content.

The registrar revealed that the suggestion to provide audiobooks was put forward during the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria.

In addition to blind candidates, other groups eligible for free registration under this initiative include individuals with Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

"The disability group will now encompass the following categories of candidates: Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)," he noted.
